Portable Generators are a must-have for any power job needs by contractors for commercial jobs that requires power on the go. Whether you power job for a construction worksite, or to provide power to your inflatable jumper for kids business, portable generator becomes the power job necessity for your business. |
When evaluating which portable generator best fits your needs, consider the following:
1. Tolerance for noise. Both for you, and your customers. For example, construction jobsites typically tolerate high noise. An open-frame portable generator would do just fine for your usage, and will save you some money
2. Power needs. Any tool with an electric motor (like table saws) will have a high surge rating. Make sure to consider this when shopping for your portable generator. Use our wattage calculator to help estimate your power needs
3. Budget. Ideally, you should add 25% extra power than you think you need when buying. If your budget is really limited, you can skip that and just get the bare necessary power in your portable generator. But more often, that extra power buffer will come in handy when you are in the middle of a job.
Also, unlike most home usages, commercial jobsite power often may require 220v power. Ensure that your portable generator has this option. No adapter will convert from 110v to 220v. Transformers can do the trick, but are often too expensive to buy on their own. Always best to get this feature included with your generator.
Also, consider an electric start if you are buying a portable generator larger than 5000 watts. The bigger they get, the harder they are to pull-start.
